The Piobaireachd Society has been fortunate in acquiring tapes left by Robert Reid.  We are grateful to his family for permission to publish these.  The tapes have now been digitalised and are available to Piobaireachd Society members.

Robert Reid was a pupil of John MacDougall Gillies for 18 years and was a proponent of his style of playing.  A talk about this style was given at the Piobaireachd Society conference in 2010.

The first exerpt to be uploaded is a chanter lesson on MacCrimmon’s Sweetheart in which he refers to playing the tune with John MacDonald at the MacCrimmon Cairn in 1932. He also commends Kilberry’s setting of the tune.
