Event to mark 100 years since the death of General Charles Thomason.
General Charles Thomason, compiler of “Ceol Mor”, the largest ever single collection of Piobaireachd died on 12 July 1911.
On Tuesday 12 July 2011 the Piobaireachd Society has arranged an event to mark 100th anniversary of his death. This will take the form of a short service conducted by the Reverend Leslie Barrett at General Thomason’s graveside in the cemetry in Grantown on Spey starting at 1230 during which the Piobaireachd “The Old Woman’s Lullaby” will be played by Bill Wotherspoon. This will be followed by lunch in the Garth Hotel Grantown on Spey when there will be a short talk about General Thomason’s contribution to Piobaireachd and his composition “Hail to my Country” will be played by Andrew Wright.
The event is open to all. Numbers for lunch are limited to 20 and will be on a first come first served basis, cost £10. Those wishing to attend the lunch should notify the treasurer Walter Gray in advance.
