Colin Cameron’s Piobaireachd manuscript
National Library of Scotland MS.3745
An account of how this volume was acquired by the Piobaireachd Society in 1949 is given in the note by Archibald Campbell pasted inside the front. A copy of manuscript was published by the National Library on microfilm, but because it is quite faint in places, this new digital scan has been made.
Although the manuscript contains the name of Donald Cameron on the title page, it is thought that most if not all of it was actually written by Donald’s son Colin, and most of the pieces are actually signed by Colin.
The writing appears to be in three stages. For more information, and for discussion of Colin Cameron’s sources and methods, see W. Donaldson, The Highland Pipe and Scottish Society, Tuckwell Press, East Linton, 200, pages 219-223.
