Lament for MacSwan of Roaig

Information

Donald MacSwan was the twenty first chieftain of the MacSwan's of Roaig, in Skye not far from Boreraig. He had been married to Florence, the tenth child of Rory Mor MacLeod of Dunvegan.  Donald MacDonald notes that it was composed by MacSwan's piper, but it is likely to have been composed by Patrick Mor MacCrimmon.

Malcolm MacPherson was a grandson of Calum Piobaire MacPherson, and son of Angus MacPherson. He was a renowned contemporary of John MacDonald of Inverness. The recordings were made in his later life when circumstances were not ideal. They reflect the style of playing indicated in the collection Binneas is Boreraig, which was compiled from Malcolm MacPherson's playing by Dr Roddy Ross.
