Piobaireachd Society Summer School of Ceòl Mòr
£100.00
Join our expert teachers for a comprehensive course of ceòl mòr study. Beginning on Sunday afternoon May 30, 2027, at around 4pm and running till shortly after breakfast on Friday, June 4, the school offers immersion in the music for five days with one-to-one and group lessons, evening piobaireachd ceilidhs, plus plenty of time to practice new pieces. Learn from champions the technique, the phrasing, the tuning, that took them to the top. The PS Summer School is only open to PS members. Not a member? Join here.
A tuition/ registration fee of £100 per person (subsidised by the Society) secures your place. Numbers are limited to 30. The £100 fee is non-refundable in the event of any cancellation after March 31, 2027. Once registration is confirmed your details will be forwarded to staff at the venue, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic medium college on the Sleat peninsula on the isle of Skye. They will then be in touch to discuss your accommodation and dietary needs. Payment for this should be done directly with SMO and not the Society. Check out their prices below.
Sabhal Mòr is an ideal conference/teaching centre, offering plenty of comfortable space indoors and out for study, practice and recreation. Scottish weather is often kind in June and there may be time during the week to visit some of the iconic and fairly local piping sites associated with the families of the MacDonalds, the MacCrimmons and the MacKays of Raasay. Check out the report and videos from 2026 school here.
All levels, from beginner to advanced, welcome. All age groups catered for but under 16s must be chaperoned. (No tuition fee required for chaperones.)
Students should bring their PS books, Kilberry Book (leave books behind if weight is an issue – photocopies supplied as necessary) and any other source material they wish to study, plus pipes, practice chanter, recorder, camera, notebook, pencils etc., and not forgetting Highland dress for the class photograph. All queries to president@piobaireachd.co.uk .
