Information

According to Binneas very little is known about this piece but it is thought to have been composed when an emigrant ship was leaving the Western Isles carrying the people off to settle in America. No date is known as to when it was composed, but some believe it was at the end of the eighteenth century or the beginning of the nineteenth.

It is found in the Campbell Canntaireachd and Angus MacKay's manuscript, and Ceol Mor sites Donald MacKay as an source.

Malcolm MacPherson was a grandson of Calum Piobaire MacPherson, and son of Angus MacPherson. He was a renowned contemporary of John MacDonald of Inverness. The recordings were made in his later life when circumstances were not ideal. They reflect the style of playing indicated in the collection Binneas is Boreraig, which was compiled from Malcolm MacPherson's playing by Dr Roddy Ross.
