Join expert teachers Society President Robert Wallace and former President Dr Jack Taylor for an intensive course of ceol mor study. Beginning on Sunday afternoon May 24 and running till 10am on Thursday May 28, the school offers complete immersion in the music with one-to-one and group lessons, evening piobaireachd ceilidhs, plus plenty of time to practice new pieces learned.
Scottish weather is often kind at the end of May and the venue, Gartmore House near Aberfoyle, offers extensive wooded grounds for outdoor practice. Gartmore House is about 45 minutes north of Glasgow on the edge of the Highland line. It is a listed building and acknowledged as an ideal conference/teaching centre, offering plenty of comfortable space for study and recreation. Tuition at the school is free, yes free – to Piobaireachd Society members. Not a member? Join here. Accommodation and all meals from dinner on the 24th until breakfast on the 28th are included in the price of £380 per person based on two sharing or £420 for a single room.
A deposit of £100 secures your place with the balance due by April 15. All levels from beginner to advanced welcome. All age groups catered for but under 16s must be chaperoned. Students should bring their PS books, Kilberry Book and any other source material they wish to study, plus pipes, practice chanter, recorder, camera, notebook, pen etc., and not forgetting Highland dress for the class photograph.
NB: This is, in the first instance, a residential course for ‘live-in’ students. There may be places for local pipers once the numbers of residential students is confirmed. Non residential students will attend Mon – Weds only and will pay £50 per day to cover lunch and tuition.
