Information

This tune is in the manuscripts of Angus MacKay, Duncan Campbell and Peter Reid. The differences between these sources are detailed in the PS book 11 note. It is also published in Ceol Mor, by David Glen and by Pipe Major Willie Gray.

The composer is not known and "Fionn" records that it was probably played at ordinary funerals when there was no special tune associated with the family to which the deceased belonged.

Judges Note 2009

Again, a straightforward tune. Also known as ‘The Rout of Bendoeg’ (Thomason, Reid), which raises the question of whether it should be played as a lament or as a more rousing battle tune.

There is scope for variety in the timing of the runs up to the grips on C in the ground.

Being fairly repetitive there is scope to raise the tempo in the variations to keep the tune interesting.
