Information

An almost identical tune called "Caismeachd Dhuntroin, Duntroon's Warning" is recorded in Angys MacKays' manuscript. The Campbell Canntaireachd has a tune called Duntroon's March which has a family resemblance to this tune. Details are recorded in the notes in PS book 6.

Alex Haddow, in "The History and Structure of Ceol Mor" says that this tune is occasionally mentioned in connection with the tangled legend of the Pipers Warning to his Master, but it seems a quiet, even lyrical piobaireachd. On the other hand it seems likely that Duntroon's Salute and Duntroon's March may be by the same composer. The subject is discussed in full in Haddow's essay on The Piper's Warning to his Master.
